Purple Heart Tax Exemption
M.O.P.H. Chapter 598 is leading a critical legislative initiative to secure a full property tax exemption for all Texas Purple Heart recipients, regardless of VA disability rating.
For far too long, Texas veterans who were wounded in combat have received unequal property tax recognition based solely on disability percentages—creating inconsistency, confusion, and hardship for the very warriors who sacrificed the most.
Our mission is simple:
A Purple Heart should stand on its own.
The sacrifice is already paid in full.
The exemption should reflect that.
Why This Matters to the Coastal Bend and the State of Texas
Purple Heart recipients are among our nation’s most severely impacted combat veterans. Many continue to live with physical wounds, traumatic injuries, and the long-term effects of their service.
A full property tax exemption would:
• Provide long-term financial stability for Purple Heart families
• Allow aging and disabled combat-wounded veterans to remain in their homes
• Bring Texas in line with states that already honor Purple Heart recipients equally
• Restore dignity and fairness to those who have already given more than most ever will
This initiative is not about politics — it is about principle, equity, and honoring sacrifice with action.
Our Work and Advocacy
M.O.P.H. 598 has launched a statewide campaign to gather data, build coalition support, and unify Purple Heart recipients, families, and community members behind this cause.
This includes:
• Conducting a statewide survey of veterans and supporters
• Coordinating with local and state lawmakers
• Hosting educational outreach events
• Building public awareness and community backing
• Preparing supporting documentation for the next legislative session
Every submission, every voice, and every story strengthens the foundation of this movement.
How You Can Support the Initiative
We encourage Purple Heart recipients, family members, and supporters to join this effort by:
• Completing our statewide survey
• Sharing this initiative within your networks
• Contacting your local representatives
• Staying informed on upcoming legislative actions
Together, we can ensure that Texas honors its combat-wounded veterans with the fairness, respect, and recognition they deserve.
A Purple Heart was earned through blood and sacrifice.
The exemption should honor that sacrifice — fully, equally, and without conditions
